Cheonan Mayor Park Sang-don said in a press conference that building the second and third Independence Hall would undermine the representation and status of the Independence Hall in Cheonan, making it difficult to sit idly by.
In addition, he stressed that while it is welcome to create a memorial to commemorate the independence movement of each region, the name and status of the Cheonan Independence Hall, which was created with public donations based on the Independence Hall Act, is a unique and symbolic heritage that cannot be easily damaged.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon earlier said he would push for a project to build an independence memorial in Gyeonggi Province, and the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs also announced plans to establish a tentatively named National Independence Movement Memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of liberation next year.
