The Seoul Metropolitan Government held a review committee on candidates for redevelopment yesterday and said it has canceled the designation of two candidate sites for rapid integration planning and redevelopment, which are difficult to push ahead with the project due to high opposition from residents.
Excluded were 170-1 Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, and 337-8, Namgajwa-dong, Seodaemun-gu, where the project was unclear and suffered from serious conflicts and disputes between residents because more than 30% of residents opposed it.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government stressed that even if a place with residents' conflicts is designated as a maintenance area, the long-term business stagnation has significant side effects such as property rights infringement and conflict fixation, and that it will pursue redevelopment in consideration of publicity and business feasibility.
