Ishiba was confirmed as the new prime minister this afternoon by winning a majority of votes in the prime ministerial nomination election held at the plenary session of the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors.
With the election of the prime minister completed, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa, a spokesman for the Japanese government, will soon announce a list of Ishiba's cabinet ministers, and a formal cabinet will be launched later.
