Lee Jae-myung, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, will be sentenced to the first trial every 15th, 25th, and 10 days next month.

It is a trial on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act that he announced false facts when he was a presidential candidate, and a trial on charges of perjury that he made a close aide testify in the trial of impersonating a prosecutor when he was governor of Gyeonggi Province.

The prosecution demanded two years in prison and three years in prison, respectively.

If representative Lee is sentenced to more than one million won in prison or fined more than one million won for violating election laws, he will lose his parliamentary seat and will not be able to run in the election.

However, even if he is found guilty in the first trial, he can run for the 21st presidential election if he is not confirmed by the Supreme Court before March 2027.

This is why the speed of the trial is as important as the guilt.

Recently, courts across the country have been advised to process the first sentence within six months and the second and third trials within three months to prevent delays in the election trial,
