The Uijeongbu District Court sentenced a man in his 50s, identified only by his surname Lee, to 18 years in prison, who was handed over to trial on charges of murder and other charges.
The court explained the reason for the sentencing, saying that the victim's bereaved family petitioned for severe punishment, the crime was serious, and the possibility of criticism was high.
Lee was tried on April 23 for allegedly swinging a weapon at his wife to death at a multi-family house in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
Lee has been separated since February due to domestic violence, but he visited his wife six days before the crime and argued, and on the same day, he went back and committed the crime, saying he would make up.
