Lee Dae-bong, chairman of Chambit Group, who devoted himself to scholarship projects after losing his son to school violence, has died at the age of 83.

Lee, who was born in Hapcheon, Gyeongsangnam-do in 1941 and made himself a self-made man, founded the Lee Dae-woong Music Scholarship, named after his son, Lee Dae-woong, who was a sophomore at Seoul Arts High School, after he died of school violence in 1987, and supported more than 30,000 people until last year.

It also acquired Seoul Arts High School and Yewon School, which were on the verge of bankruptcy in 2010, and established the Seoul Art Center in Pyeongchang-dong, Seoul last year.
