The "East Interstate Underground Road," which connects the two Koreas in the northeastern Seoul area, has opened its first shovel with the aim of completing it in 2029.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the underground road of the Dongbu Expressway and start construction of a 12.5km section connecting Wolneung Bridge in Seongbuk-gu to Daechi-dong in Gangnam-gu.The

underground road will be designed with four round-trip lanes exclusively for small cars passing through Jungnangcheon Stream and the Han River, and will be operated without traffic restrictions even in heavy rain as a first-class disaster prevention facility.

When the underground road is completed in 2029, the ground traffic on the eastern highway, which currently has 150,000 vehicles per day, will be distributed, reducing the passing time from 50 minutes to 10 minutes from Wolgye IC to Daechi IC.
