With the U.S. presidential election just five weeks away, the first and final televised debate between the vice presidential candidates took place.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a Democratic vice presidential nominee, and Senator J.D. Vance, a Republican vice presidential nominee, sparred during a televised debate at CBS Broadcasting Center in New York City on the night of the 1st.

As to whether Israel should support Iran in the event of a preemptive strike, Walz declined to give an immediate answer, criticizing the possibility of Iran's nuclear armament as a result of former President Trump's capricious leadership in the Middle East crisis.

In response, Vance responded that former President Trump brought stability around the world during his tenure and built effective deterrence.

The two candidates fought fiercely on a variety of topics, including immigration, which has emerged as a major issue in the U.S. presidential election, as well as tax cuts, inflation and controversy over presidential disobedience.

U.S. media said the two candidates intensively criticized the presidential candidate of the other party, but refrained from smearing their opponents, leading to a policy-oriented debate.
