The Itaewon bereaved family council submitted a fact-finding application to the special investigation committee this afternoon on nine tasks, including predictions and countermeasures for the 2022 Halloween Day crowd, and the appropriateness of response to risk reports and dissemination on the day before and on the day of the disaster.
The bereaved families held a press conference before submitting the application and argued that independent investigations should clearly investigate whether they failed to reduce the predicted disaster risk and what structural problems in the disaster management system that have increased the damage.
The bereaved families also criticized the acquittal of Park Hee-young, the head of Yongsan-gu, who was previously handed over to trial on charges of poor response to the disaster, as the result of a poor prosecution investigation.
