This afternoon, the Ministry of Education dispatched 12 audit personnel to the Gwanak Campus of Seoul National University to conduct an on-site audit to see if there were any problems with the approval process for a leave of absence from Seoul Medical University.
The Ministry of Education expressed regret over Seoul Medical University's approval of the first leave of absence, stressing that it will be appreciated as strongly as possible.
In addition, the Ministry of Education sent an official warning to 40 medical schools nationwide that additional approval of the alliance leave of absence could allow them to check the university decision-making process.
Despite the government's "no alliance leave of absence policy," Seoul Medical University approved the application for 700 medical students to take a leave of absence on the 30th of last month with the approval of the dean.
According to the Seoul National University school regulations, the dean of the medical school is the decision maker to approve the leave of absence for medical students, so the dean reportedly approved the application for a leave of absence without discussing it with the university headquarters.
