The Netflix film "Jeon, Lan," which had been a hot topic from the production stage to the release, was unveiled at the Busan International Film Festival.

'Jeonran' is a story about Jong-ryeo, the son of Joseon's top military officer who grew up together, and Cheon-young, his brother-in-law, becoming an enemy with Seon-jo's closest military officer and a righteous army and meeting again. The film drew attention not only for director Park Chan-wook's participation in production and screenplay, but also for its ultra-luxury casts such as actors Kang Dong-won, Park Jung-min, Cha Seung-won, Kim Shin-rok, Jin Sun-kyu and Jung Sung-il.

In addition, the modifier OTT film, which was selected as the opening film for the first time in the 29-year history of the Busan International Film Festival, has further raised the interest of filmmakers.

If the Busan International Film Festival has mainly introduced art films and independent films containing historical and social messages in its opening films, "Jeon and Lan" is so popular that it can be said to change the trajectory.

The colorful actions of the protagonists who use swords freely catch the eye the moment they see it, and the straight and clear narrative that drives the movie is also clear. The director exudes energy as much as he can, focusing on the process of the two opposing and conflicting protagonists heading toward the finale of revenge.

It is quite interesting to see the two men who met as nobles and slaves become closer than anyone else, and then the misunderstandings between the two sides build up, add years to the misunderstanding, and eventually point a knife at each other and become an object of revenge. Therefore, the hurdles entering the movie are very low, and the fun of the work is not small.

Above all, it is the good performance of actors that adds to the attraction. In particular, Park Jung-min, who is challenging his first historical drama, completed his own palmistry with excellent character interpretation as always. His eyes, which start with a purely maritime face and are filled with resentment and betrayal, bring the work to life again this time.

Kang Dong-won's new acting also adds to the movie's viewing experience. From his playful appearance like a naughty boy to his face full of betrayal, his face deserves to be said to be a rediscovery of Kang Dong-won. On top of that, Seonjo, played by Cha Seung-won, stands out enough to feel that he once again leaves a big point in his penmanship. Cha Seung-won's three-dimensional performance, which is cowardly, stubborn, mean, and selfish by being greedy, feels like one of the greatest achievements of Jeon-ran.

The movie was armed with these advantages, but the shortcomings are also clear, leaving a regret.

Above all, class, status, and fate are the main subjects of the film, but they are used only as a catalyst for conflict and events and cannot be dealt with in depth. In particular, recalling that Chun-young was originally a commoner, the movie does not properly utilize the most important characteristics of the character. Therefore, 'Jeon and Lan' seems to stop at just exhibiting even though a meaningful theme is in front of us.

In addition, the laughter code that continues throughout the movie using translation as a subject of humor is also expected to be a factor that some audiences may like or dislike.

Can a movie that has given more power to popularity than a heavy message capture the hearts of audiences around the world? The movie "Jeon and Lan" will be released on Netflix on the 11th, and will be screened three times on October 3 and 4 including the opening ceremony during the Busan International Film Festival.

The movie 'Jeon, Lan'. Directed by Kim Sang-man. Actors Kang Dong-won, Park Jung-min, Kim Shin-rok, Jin Seon-gyu, Jung Sung-il, and Cha Seung-won. Rated-R. Running time is 127 minutes.
