U.S. President Joe Biden has said he plans to sanction Iran for launching retaliatory attacks on its ally Israel but opposes attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities.

"It's not my answer," Biden said when reporters at Joint Base Andrews asked if he supported Israel's attack on Iran's nuclear facilities.

Mr Biden said he would discuss future responses with Israel and that all G7 leaders agreed that Israel has the right to respond but should respond proportionately to attacks on Iran.

He also forewarned that he would impose sanctions on Iran.

The White House says Biden has joined the call with the leaders of the Group of Seven to discuss Iran's unacceptable attacks on Israel and coordinate a response, including new sanctions.

President Biden and the G7 have clearly condemned Iran's attack on Israel and reaffirmed their ironclad commitments to Israeli security.
