In his first press conference since taking office, new Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya said the Asian version of the NATO initiative should be considered in the mid- to long-term.
He then explained that it is very difficult to establish an organization in Asia that immediately requires mutual defense obligations.
He said it was not aimed at a specific country, adding that a security cooperation relationship that does not exclude any country is most desirable.
