What will be the breakthrough for the Korean film industry in crisis?

At the Film Industry Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan, where the 29th Busan International Film Festival will be held this afternoon (3rd), a "film industry crisis overcoming film industry crisis discussion" was held hosted by the Film Industry Overcoming Film Industry Crisis Alliance.

Ahn Byung-ho, a member of the National Film Industry Workers' Union, Kim Yi-seok, a professor of film at Dongui University, Lee Ji-hye, vice chairman of the Korea Film Producers Association, Lee Dong-ha, a member of the Korea Film Producers Association, and Won Seung-hwan, head of the Korea Arts and Cinemas Association, hosted the forum.

In particular, the story of movie ticket prices was dealt with in depth as one of the main agendas of the debate.

Currently, the average weekend fee for major multiplexes such as CGV, Megabox, and Lotte Cinema is 15,000 won, which is the result of raising prices three times after COVID-19. However, the problem is that the profit to the creator has been reduced. Lee Ha-young, a member of the Korea Film Producers Association, pointed out, "The price of customers, which is the standard for settlement, is falling, overshadowing the increased ticket price."

In fact, according to the "Film Industry Settlement" report released by the Korea Film Council in July, the unit price of domestic movie theaters in the first half of this year was 9,768 won. The average ticket fee is 15,000 won, but it means that you can watch movies at a much lower price if you receive various discounts such as mileage and point system. In this process, the creator's profits naturally decrease.

According to the steering committee member, the guest price for "Seoul Spring" is 9,745 won, "Pillow" is 9,665 won, "Crime City 4" is 9,567 won, and "Veteran 2" is 9,639 won. It's less than two-thirds of the ticket price.
According to
, the operating committee member said, "The burden of various discount systems through mileage and points is fully borne by the production company. The discount system, which is not included in the customer price, should be eliminated. He also stressed the need for a ticket price cut for the whole, not a discount system for a small number of audiences.

"The opaque settlement and unfair distribution of the film industry are shaking the source of the reproduction of the film market," he said, explaining that the normalization of the price of customers and the reduction of ticket prices are one of the ways to revive the Korean film market.
