North Korea, which has denied the Northern Limit Line, the NLL, which has served as a maritime border between the two Koreas, is expected to claim a new maritime border through constitutional amendment next week.

As a result, concerns over provocations are growing, and the ROK-U.S. Navy conducted joint drills to reconfirm its operational capabilities.

On the 7th, North Korea is expected to hold the Supreme People's Assembly, which is equivalent to our National Assembly, to revise the Constitution.

This is because follow-up measures are needed, such as the establishment of new territorial and territorial regulations, as Chairman Kim Jong-un defined inter-Korean relations as two hostile countries late last year.

In the case of territory, it is highly likely that the territory will be set north of the border as the two Koreas have a border between them, but the maritime border is different.

In the past, North Korea has denied the Northern Limit Line, the NLL, starting from the 5th West Sea.

In 1999, it insisted on a maritime boundary, including Yeonpyeong Island and waters near Baengnyeong Island, and although it has taken a step back since the mid-2000s, it still insists on the West Sea Security Line, which is south of the NLL.

In January, he raised the level of tension by pointing out the NLL as "illegal" and "lawless."

[Chosun Central Television (January 16): No boundary line, including the illegal Northern Limit Line, is allowed, and if the Republic of Korea invades our territory, airspace, and territorial waters even 0.001mm, it will soon be considered a provocation of war.]

The government is also watching the possibility that North Korea will set up a maritime border further south than the current Northern Limit Line, the NLL, and use it as an excuse for provocation.

In the meantime, the ROK-U.S. Navy has conducted a joint maritime drill in waters east of Pohang since the 2nd.

In particular, the U.S. Navy amphibian, dubbed the "Small Carrier," participated in the training with dozens of F-35B stealth fighters to show off its prowess.

[Moon Ga-young / Navy Marado: Through this exercise, the ROK-U.S. Navy was able to establish the highest combat readiness to respond firmly to any provocation by the enemy.]

South Korea and the U.S. evaluated that they showed a strong willingness to jointly respond to any North Korean threat through maritime maneuvers, convoys of landing troops, and air defense drills.
