The Ministry of Education held a 'National Council of Medical School Presidents' today and stressed that alliance leave of absence is difficult to see as a legitimate reason for taking a leave of absence, and that large-scale group leave of absence should not be approved.
He also reiterated that there is no change in the government's policy regarding medical school leave, and asked for thorough academic management.
At the meeting, the presidents indicated that there was a burden on academic management and suggested that support was needed for student return and normal operation of the curriculum.
In response, the Ministry of Education said it is collecting opinions on the normalization of academic backgrounds and considering various measures.
Earlier on the 30th of last month, Seoul National University Medical School approved 780 medical students' applications for a first semester leave of absence, and the Ministry of Education is conducting a high-intensity audit.
The Ministry of Education also sent an official letter to 40 medical schools, warning that if a large-scale leave of absence is approved, the university's decision-making and curriculum can be checked.
