The U.S. military has officially announced that it has struck 15 sites in Yemen, including attacking military facilities by pro-Iranian Houthi rebels.

The U.S. Central Command, which has jurisdiction over the Middle East, said in a post on its X (X) account on the 14th local time that it "hit 15 targets inside Yemen in areas controlled by Iran-backed Houthis."

Targets attacked by U.S. forces include Yemen's military offensive capabilities, the Central Command said.

"The move is aimed at protecting freedom of navigation and making international waters safer and more stable for the United States and other allied countries and merchant ships," the Central Command said.

Houthi-run outlet Almasira TV said U.S. and British forces bombed airports in the port city of Hodeida, the capital Sanaa and midwestern Damar.

U.S. officials also say U.S. forces have struck a number of targets, including weapons systems, bases and military equipment from the pro-Iranian rebel Houthis in Yemen.

However, the announcement of the U.S. Central Command did not specify the participation of the British military.

Earlier the day before, the Houthis posted a video on social media, saying it appeared when they attacked the British oil tanker Cordelia Moon with a drone in the Red Sea on the 1st.

The video showed the hull exploding and a fire broke out.

The Houthis have been attacking merchant ships on the Red Sea in the name of Hamas support when Palestinian militant Hamas raided Israel in October last year and fired missiles and drones at Israel several times.
