The level of the Negro River, one of the main tributaries of the Amazon River, has fallen to record lows, Brazil's geological agency said.

Brazil's geological agency said on the 4th that the level of the Negru River was 12.66 meters local time, significantly lower than the normal level of 21 meters, which is the lowest level in 122 years.

The geological agency warned that water levels in the river could be lower in the coming weeks due to no rain forecast in the upper reaches of the river.

The Associated Press reported that the severe drought has pushed all major rivers in the Amazon basin to dangerous levels, and some have exposed floors, making it impossible for residents to live their daily lives.

Water levels in the Brazilian Amazon rise and fall depending on the rainy season and dry season, but this year's dry season is much worse than usual.
