Reuters said a series of explosions were heard and smoke was seen in the area shortly after Israeli forces ordered residents on the southern outskirts of Beirut to evacuate on May 5 local time.
The AFP news agency reported that after Israeli forces warned residents of southern Beirut to evacuate, smoke rose and loud explosions were heard in an area near the airport.
Countries around the world are using chartered flights to evacuate their citizens as the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies in Lebanon.
According to the Associated Press, Israeli forces also hit the border area of Masna, 50 kilometers from Beirut, the day before, cutting off the main highway connecting Lebanon and Syria.
