According to the data received by Baek Seung-ah of the Democratic Party of Korea, a member of the National Assembly's Education Committee, from five national universities, including Kangwon National University and Kyungpook National University, 2,661 people applied for leave of absence for the first and second semesters of this year.
Of these, 173 were approved for leave of absence, accounting for only 6.5%, while the remaining 2,488 were found to be on hold.
In terms of the ratio of university leave of absence approval, Busan National University recorded the highest at 98.5%, followed by Chonnam National University at 92.3%, Gyeongsang National University at 91.9%, Kangwon National University at 91.8%, and Kyungpook National University at 90.9%.
Representative Baek argued that a fundamental solution should be made, saying that a tyrannical audit of the university is not the only thing.
