As you sail north
, there may be a number of ships, including ferries, going south. I hope you operate safely."

The Jeju Metropolitan Transportation Control Center, VTS Controller, is busy communicating with ships.

We deliver information for the safe operation of each ship as well as the weather at Jeju Port.

The Coast Guard has expanded the facilities and equipment of the existing Jeju VTS and has been operating it as a Jeju metropolitan VTS since last month.

The control area has been expanded from 890㎢ to 7,800㎢.

It is four times the size of Jeju Island.

The installation of Jeju wide-area VTS is expected to lead to an accident prevention effect.

[Kang Kwon-hong / Director of Jeju VTS Center: The expansion of the control area to all areas of Jeju Island is expected to contribute greatly to the prevention of marine accidents, minimization of casualties in the event of marine accidents, and prevention of secondary accidents]

In fact, the Jeju Metropolitan VTS played a major role in emergency transportation of emergency patients off the coast of Chujado Island in June.

The Chujado Sea remained a blind spot because it did not correspond to the control area before the Jeju wide area VTS operation.

The Coast Guard has been steadily increasing its maritime traffic control center and VTS since the Ferry Sewol disaster.

After Mokpo and Gunsan last year, we will operate Jeju Metropolitan VTS for the third time this year.

[Kim Jong-wook / Chief of the Korea Coast Guard: Our people will be able to use the sea more safely through the uninterrupted maritime traffic control service from ports to coasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.]

The Coast Guard plans to strengthen the function and role of VTS in establishing a marine information convergence platform based on satellites and drones and a Korean marine area recognition system.

The Coast Guard plans to build wide-area VTSs in the East Sea and Pohang by 2026, expand control facilities, and expand the control area to 50% of the territorial waters.
