The Suwon District Court sentenced a man in his 30s to six months in prison for a rafting company owner accused of professional negligence.
The court judged that one person lost his life because A did not take sufficient safety measures, such as stopping rafting until the weather conditions improved or having several experienced guides on board.
Mr. A was put on trial on charges of failing to fulfill his duty of care in connection with an accident in which a passenger in his 60s drowned on a rafting boat in Donggang, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do on the afternoon of August 9, 2022.
At that time, it rained from the previous day and heavy rain was predicted on the day of the accident, which was a high risk of accidents, but A carried out rafting without additional rescue workers and had only a rafting guide less than a month after obtaining a license.
