Hosted by the National Defense Information Service, a total of 5,100 people participated in the competition, including soldiers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, as well as U.S. soldiers in Korea, marathon enthusiasts and family and individual participants.
In 2015, Army Sergeant Ha Jae-heon and a veteran of the Cheonan ship shooting incident, who lost their legs due to North Korea's provocation of a wooden ship mine in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), added meaning.
After the marathon, which was divided into 10km, 5km and 2 courses, various events were held, including the 3rd Army honor guard demonstration, military band samulnori, and taekwondo demonstration.
