The Ministry of National Defense's excavation team said it identified the remains excavated in Sangseo-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon-do in 2000 as the late Sergeant Park Pan-ok, who was killed in the Battle of the Sniper Neckline during the Korean War.

As a result, the total number of South Korean soldiers who have been identified has increased to 237 since the excavation of the remains began in April 2000.

The national team said it discovered remains such as the head bone of the deceased in 2000, but technology at the time could not confirm the family relationship, and confirmed the family relationship last month after re-analysis with the latest technology.
