Karachi, said the blast was an attack targeting foreigners.
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan also issued a statement calling the blast a "terrorist attack," saying vehicles of a Chinese investment joint venture were attacked near the airport.
The separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army, BLA, said in a statement that it was behind the attack and claimed it was targeting Chinese people, including engineers.
The BLA is an armed group that has called for the independence of Balochistan, which borders Afghanistan and Iran in southwestern Pakistan.
They have specifically targeted the Arabian Sea strategic port of Guadar, accusing China of helping the Pakistani government exploit the region.
In August, more than 70 people were killed in the region in an organized attack by the group.
