Rice production was expected to decrease for the third year this year due to a decrease in cultivation area.

Rice production this year is expected to be 3.657 million tons, down 1.2% from last year, according to the results of a survey on expected rice production released by the National Statistical Office.If

rice production decreases this year, it will decrease for three consecutive years starting in 2022.

A 1.5% reduction in cultivated area to 697,714 hectares was the main factor in the decrease in production.

This year's cultivation area is the smallest ever since 1965 when related statistics were published.The area of

rice cultivation is decreasing due to balanced supply and demand policies such as the strategic crop direct payment system and the paddy crop cultivation support project.

However, the expected production per 10 ar was 524 kg, up 0.2% from the previous year.

South Chungcheong Province had the highest estimated rice production of 725,000 tons, followed by 721,000 tons in South Jeolla Province and 559,000 tons in North Jeolla Province.
