According to a survey of 5,848 elementary, middle, and high school teachers nationwide conducted by the Korean Federation of Teachers' Associations, 92% said their literacy has deteriorated.
Specifically, 48.2% of the teachers answered that two out of ten students had poor literacy compared to their grade level.
The school's federation explained that there were cases where students understood hair as two legs, today as Friday, the genealogy as pig's feet and bossam sets, and the starting point as swear words.
Teachers answered that it is most necessary to strengthen reading activities to improve students' literacy, followed by the answer that vocabulary education should be strengthened and digital media usage habits should be improved.
