The safety of the commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard's elite Quds Force, who was reported missing after Israel's bombing of the Lebanese capital Beirut, is safe, Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency reported.

Speaking at an event in Tehran, Deputy Commander Iraj Masjedi said the commander of the army, Esmail Ghani Quds, was safe and on his mission.

Earlier, foreign media reported that General Ghani recently visited Beirut and lost contact after Israeli air strikes on the 3rd.

At the time, the bombing was reportedly aimed at Hashim Safiedin, who is considered Hezbollah's next successor, and Safiedin's life and death have yet to be confirmed.

The Quds Force is an elite unit responsible for the Revolutionary Guard's overseas operations and is responsible for funding, weapons and training support for pro-Iranian armed groups operating in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
