U.S. Sanctions New, including 'Fake Charities' Funding Hamas

The U.S. Treasury Department has decided to impose new sanctions on fake charities that finance Palestinian militant Hamas on the first anniversary of the Israeli-Hamas war.The U.S. Treasury Department's Foreign Assets Control Bureau
says it has decided to sanction three individuals, one fake charity and one Hamas-controlled Gaza financial institution that has served as Hamas' international financial backer.The U.S. Treasury Department
identified a "union of charities in solidarity with the Palestinian people" as a fake charity that helps Hamas and explained that Hamas has been deploying proxies across Europe for many years to raise funds through fake charities.

He also pointed out that as of the beginning of this year, Hamas may have received 10 million dollars a month, about 13.4 billion won, from donations made through such organizations.

The sanctions are the eighth U.S. sanctions targeting Hamas' cash cow since the start of the Israeli-Hamas war, freezing assets in the U.S. and prohibiting transactions with Americans.

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stressed that a year after Hamas' brutal terrorist attacks, the U.S. Treasury Department would reduce the ability of Hamas and its Iranian proxies to finance operations and carry out violence.
