Current President Kais Saied has won re-election in the North African country of Tunisia.

Mr. Syed won a landslide 90.69 percent of the vote, but only 28.8 percent of the vote.

This is the lowest turnout since democratization was achieved by the 2011 Arab Spring protests, especially among young people under 35, who make up a third of the electorate.

President Saied, who came to power in 2019, has made authoritative moves, dissolving parliament and revising the constitution.

Tunisia's Election Commission has disqualified 14 candidates from running in the presidential election, leaving Mr Saied's only competitors to be detained businessmen Jammel and Mr Saied's former ally Magjaui.

International human rights groups have recently pointed out that Tunisia's democracy is retreating after Saied took power.
