Seven out of 10 coastal ferries connecting major domestic ports to islands were not equipped with electric vehicle fire response equipment, according to a survey.

According to data received by Chung Hee-yong, a member of the National Assembly's Agriculture, Food, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Committee, from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, only 37 out of 114 ferries, or 26% of them, were equipped with suffocation guns.

In particular, Chung said that despite the recent increase in the number of electric vehicles being transported by passenger ships, there is a lack of preparation for fire, and pointed out that response equipment should be quickly distributed to coastal ferries and major ports.
