Asan Mayor Park Kyung-gui, who was accused of publishing false information in the 2022 local elections, has been sentenced to invalidity of election.

The Supreme Court today (8th) confirmed the original ruling that sentenced Mayor Park, who was accused of violating the Public Official Election Act, to a fine of 15 million won.

Mayor Park, who was fined more than 1 million won for violating the Public Official Election Act, lost his position as mayor.

Mayor Park was put on trial for raising suspicions of real estate speculation against his opponent, former Asan Mayor Oh Se-hyun, ahead of the last local election.

After that, the first and second trials sentenced a fine of 15 million won, which was invalidated by the election, but in January, the Supreme Court overturned the second trial ruling and returned the case to the Daejeon High Court.

The intention was that there was an illegality in the lower court procedure, but we did not decide whether to invalidate the election or not.

Mayor Park appealed again when he was fined 15 million won during the subsequent remand trial.
