Sweden's Nobel Committee says it has named Professor John Hopfield and Professor Jeffrey Hinton as winners of this year's physics prize for developing a methodology that underlies machine learning using artificial neural networks.
Hopfield from the United States is from Princeton University and Hinton from the United Kingdom is from the University of Toronto, Canada.
The Nobel committee explained that Hopfield has created an associative memory device that can store and reconstruct different types of patterns from the data's images.
Hinton also said he invented a way to automatically find out the characteristics of the data and identify specific elements of the photograph.
This is the first time a Nobel Prize winner has been awarded in the field of AI.
The winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics will receive 11 million Swedish krona and 1.34 billion won in our money.
The Nobel Committee will present the Physiology and Medicine Prize yesterday, the Chemistry Prize tomorrow, the Literature Prize the day after tomorrow, and the Peace Prize on the 11th.
