Israel's defense minister has abruptly postponed his visit to the U.S. amid heightened tensions in the Middle East due to the conflict between Israel and Iran.

Israel's Defense Secretary Joab Galant has been informed that he is postponing his visit to Washington, DC, deputy Pentagon spokesman Sabrina Singh told a briefing.

Singh told Israel to ask for reasons to postpone the visit and said they were still in talks about Israel's future response.

Defense Secretary Galant's visit to the U.S. was at the request of Israel, and the postponement notice is unusual.

Asked if there was a conflict between the two ministers, Singh said he could not agree on everything between his friends, but that does not mean there is a conflict, adding that he would not give too much meaning to the postponement of the visit.

In a related development, Israeli media reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu informed Galant by phone that he would not approve his visit until he spoke with U.S. President Biden.
