Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba dissolved the House of Representatives.

The plenary session of the House of Representatives convened at 4 p.m. today was convened by the chairman of the House of Representatives to read out the dissolution record signed by all Ishiba Cabinet ministers and signed by the Emperor.

The dissolution of the House of Representatives has been almost three years since the inauguration of the Kishida Cabinet on October 14, 2021.

As a result, 465 members of the House of Representatives will step down from their seats, and the general election will be held on the 27th for 465 seats, including 289 seats in the district and 176 proportional representatives.

The dissolution of the House of Representatives is the shortest period in history, eight days after the prime minister took office.

Prime Minister Ishiba's dissolution of the House of Representatives is interpreted as an intention to link expectations for the launch of a new regime to the number of seats through the general election.

However, the Ishiba Cabinet's approval rating, which has been surveyed since its launch, is estimated to be 51% lower than that of previous administrations.
