International oil prices, which had soared in anticipation that the flame of a ceasefire could be revived, plunged as Lebanon's armed faction Hezbollah expressed its intention to negotiate an unconditional ceasefire.

However, the prevailing analysis is that it is difficult to make progress in ceasefire negotiations right now.

Reporter Park Young-jin reports.

Ground war in southern Lebanon for more than a week,
Hezbollah, which has lost its successor Safiedin after Nasrallah, the head of
, vowed to resist and live only by persevering, but expressed its intention to negotiate a ceasefire.

Hezbollah's second-in-command, Naim Qasem, says he supports the ongoing ceasefire efforts by Lebanon's parliament speaker.

He also did not mention the Gaza truce, which he had been betting on as a pre-emptive condition for negotiations.

[Naim Qasem / Hezbollah's No.2] When a ceasefire is reached and diplomacy intervenes, everything will be discussed and decisions will be made.]

Oil prices, which have soared so far, plunged more than 4% on expectations that the flame of a ceasefire could be revived.

However, the interpretation is that "it is unclear whether such comments mean a change in Hezbollah's position."

Analysts say that Israel's offensive is difficult to handle and that it may have raised the white flag.

The U.S. government also pointed out that Hezbollah, which has not budged on calls for a ceasefire for the past year, has brought up a ceasefire when the tide of war has turned unfavorable.

[Mash Miller / U.S. State Department spokesman] Now that Hezbollah is retreating and under attack, it suddenly wants to change its words and a ceasefire. I don't think that's surprising given the situation they're in.

Meanwhile, Israeli media reported that the U.S. and Arab countries have begun secret talks with Iran for a ceasefire on all fronts in the Middle East.

However, with Israel still preoccupied with expanding military operations rather than diplomatic solutions, it is unlikely that ceasefire negotiations will make progress right away.
