The government held a cabinet meeting today (10th) and voted on a "partial amendment to the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes," which punishes deepfake sexual exploitation just by looking at it.

The promulgation plan calls for a new punishment regulation for those who possess, purchase, store, or watch false sexual videos and face up to three years in prison or a fine of up to 30 million won.

In addition, the statutory sentence for editing and distributing deepfake sexual exploitation has been strengthened from less than five years to less than seven years, and for profit, from less than seven years to more than three years of imprisonment.

At the same time, the Cabinet also passed a bill to revise the Act on the Protection of Victims of Sexual Violence, which stipulates that the state is responsible for the deletion of deepfakes or illegal filming and supporting the daily recovery of victims.
