The Marine Citizen Science Center 'Blue' said in a report that recorded abnormalities in the Jeju sea from August to September.
In the waters of Beomseom Island, Munseom Island, Seopseom Island, and Songaksan Mountain, there was a melting phenomenon of Yeonsanho, including chestnut resin mandrami, purple resin mandrami, and dark red resin mandrami, which were designated as endangered wildlife and marine protected life.
It has been confirmed that the damage is serious, with the Yeonsanho colony melting down less than 10 meters deep.
In some waters, small seaweeds that provide color and energy to coral have been observed to leave or die due to rising water temperatures, revealing the white skeleton of coral.
Abnormalities in algae that share habitats with coral have also been discovered.
Jeju's waters were subject to a high-temperature warning for 61 days last summer, when the water temperature lasted or was expected to last for more than three days, above 28 degrees Celsius.
'Blue' said the role of the state and local governments in responding to the unstable future and public-private cooperation are important, urging the government to form a special public-private investigation team to respond to high water temperatures in the sea.
