At the ASEAN-Korea summit, which President Yoon Suk Yeol attended for three consecutive years since his inauguration, Korea-ASEAN relations have risen to a "comprehensive strategic partnership."

The highest-level partnership has been established in 35 years since the establishment of the ASEAN-Korea dialogue relationship in 1989.

As the relationship has been upgraded, specific cooperation measures have been developed in various fields such as politics, security, economy, society and culture.

South Korea and ASEAN will hold their first defense ministers' face-to-face meeting next month to develop defense military cooperation and launch a think tank Dialogue next year to cooperate in responding to the trade environment.

It also focused on a vision of future-oriented cooperation by promoting training for 40,000 ASEAN students over the next five years.

In particular, ASEAN's support was secured, stating in the joint statement, "We welcome the Republic of Korea's efforts to achieve its goals while acknowledging the importance of the August 15 reunification doctrine."

It was also seen to check China's military activities in the South China Sea, which is in a territorial dispute with ASEAN, by agreeing to maintain and promote freedom of peace, navigation, and commercial flight in the South China Sea.

At the ASEAN+3 summit that followed, President Yoon said it was an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among Korea, Japan, and China through ASEAN+3 cooperation and a virtuous cycle.

As a result, it promised to strengthen and expand the Chiang Mai Agreement, a currency exchange agreement for financial stability, and Campus Asia, a student exchange program.
