The driver of the reverse driving accident at Seoul City Hall Station, which caused 14 casualties, denied the charges in the first trial.

Mr. Cha, who was arrested and charged with murder under the Traffic Accident Handling Act, said today (11th) that he denies the prosecution's indictment in the first trial held at the Seoul Central District Court.

Cha's side said that even though he did not press the accelerator pedal, the vehicle quickly accelerated and the brakes did not work, and that even if Cha did not take action, such as honking his horn, it cannot be said that he was at fault.

Cha is accused of driving out of the underground parking lot of the Westin Chosun Hotel near Seoul City Hall Station at around 9:30 p.m. in July and rushing into the sidewalk, killing nine people and injuring five others.

Prosecutors say they took over the case from the police and conducted forensic work on the accident vehicle and found that the car's sudden acceleration was not true, but that the accident occurred by stepping on the wrong accelerator pedal.
