Did the East Asia Summit begin?

[Reporter]
Yes, today, the last day of his tour, President Yoon Suk Yeol attended the East Asia Summit, the EAS, which started a while ago.President Yun

is expected to send a hard-line message on North Korea's nuclear threats and illegal military cooperation with Russia.

At the same time, he is expected to explain to representatives the positive meaning of the August 15 reunification doctrine for freedom, peace and prosperity in the region and ask for the support of the international community, including ASEAN.

Earlier, the presidential office said at the East Asia Summit that President Yoon will emphasize that Korea will play a responsible role and contribution as a global central country to protect the normative-based regional order.

The East Asia Summit is the highest-level strategic forum in the Asia-Pacific region, involving the United States, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and India among ASEAN Plus (+).

At the meeting, discussions on Myanmar's civil war and territorial disputes in the South China Sea are expected to be the main topics.

In Myanmar, a representative of the junta was also present this year, three years after ASEAN banned the dispatch of representatives in a coup at the end of 2021.

After the East Asia Summit, all the multilateral meetings that President Yoon attended one after another will end.

After that, President Yoon will wrap up his five-night, six-day trip and head back home.

So far, I'm YTN Cho Yong-sung in the presidential office in Yongsan.
