China also showed great interest in the news that novelist Han Kang was the first Korean writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Major media, including China's state-run Xinhua News Agency, reported that Han Kang was chosen as the winner of this year's Nobel Prize in Literature, calling it "famous for its profound themes and unique narrative style."

He added that Han was the first Asian writer to receive the Booker International (currently the International Booker Prize), the international category of the Booker Prize, for "Vegetarian" in 2016.

Other media, including the popular network, explained that the Nobel Prize in Literature was given to an Asian writer 12 years after his own author Mo Yan won the prize in 2012.

Chinese Korean literature researchers also said, "Han Kang's novels are always innovative," adding, "It could be an opportunity for a syndrome in Korean literature in the future."

Chinese Internet users also congratulated Han Kang's acceptance of the Nobel Prize in Literature by responding, "I couldn't help but cry after reading the book" or "It's the most impressive book I've read recently."

Some expressed regret that his own writer Chan Xue, dubbed "China's Kafka," was mentioned as the most likely candidate for this year's award and eventually failed to win the award.

Han Kang's works are published in Chinese, including "The Vegetarian" and "I Don't Say Goodbye," and untranslated works such as "The Boy Is Coming" will soon be translated into Chinese.
