Taurus, Key Power of 'Kill Chain' in Korean-style 3-axis System
Up to 1,100 kilometers per hour...North Korea's range in 15 minutes.
The South Korean Air Force conducted live fire on the Taurus missile, a key strategic asset of the three-axis system, as a response to North Korea's successive acts of escalating tensions.
Through live fire that resumed for the first time in more than seven years, our Air Force showed off its strong deterrence against North Korea.
Reporter Kim Dae-gyeom's report.
[Reporter] Our Air Force fighter F-15K, given an
enemy strike mission, takes off vigorously.
When it reaches the sky, it fires a missile that has been carried toward the ground.
Missiles cruising toward virtual enemy lines with their own thrust, then identify targets and hit them accurately.
With the Taurus missile, a key power asset of our Air Force, the Air Force conducted live fire twice on the 8th and 10th.
The maximum range is 500 kilometers, and the Air Force says the Taurus, which was fired from the F-15K, hit a target some 400 kilometers away.
He added that the training verified the operational capabilities, including system integration and safety separation between F-15K and Taurus, and re-examined the Korean three-axis system, including the Kill Chain.
[Leader Cho Myung-soo / Air Force 11th Fighter Wing Captain: As each Taurus missile is a valuable asset of our military, we will share this live shooting experience with all F-15K pilots so that our air force missile shooting know-how can be accumulated.]
Taurus with stealth technology can escape the North Korean radar network and put the entire North Korean country in range within 15 minutes at a maximum speed of 1,100 kilometers per hour.
In addition, it is known to be capable of precision strikes within a radius of 3m even in radio disturbances and have the power to penetrate 3m thick reinforced concrete.
The Taurus live-fire exercise has been about seven years since 2017, when North Korea previously conducted its sixth nuclear test, and the Air Force said it showed strong deterrence against North Korea at home and abroad.
