Novelist Han Kang, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, expressed her deep gratitude to domestic readers for their huge waves of congratulations.

Changbi and Munhakdongne, who published Han Kang's novel, said in a text message to reporters that Han Kang has delivered his acceptance speech instead of holding a separate press conference.

Han Kang said he was surprised to hear the news of the award through a notice and that he slowly felt a sense of reality and emotion after hanging up the phone.

He added, "I'm surprised to hear warm congratulations like a huge wave throughout the day," and "I'm deeply grateful for your selection as the winner."

Earlier, novelist Han Seung-won, the father of author Han Kang, said his daughter has told him that she does not want to hold a conference like a feast at a time when there are many victims from the Ukraine and Israel-Palestine wars.
