With the exception of some classical lovers, the 'orchestra' is something that feels unfamiliar and difficult to ordinary people. On top of that, service and good deeds also feel like noble acts that can only be done by those with angelic hearts.

However, the "Soul Chamber Orchestra" is breaking this prejudice and giving a warm hand to the world through music. Founded in 2009, the Soul Chamber Orchestra is a "special" orchestra that has gathered to present clean water to Africa. The orchestra brings together top domestic performers to give beautiful music through talent donations and shares warm hearts through music, meaning "soul room."

A connection with African children that began with a book.

In response, music director Kim In-kyung also explained the Soul Chamber Orchestra in one sentence, saying, "We are a gift-giving orchestra." Since he founded the Soul Chamber Orchestra, he has been steadily participating in drinking water support activities for African children. But the start of this project was due to a book that I happened to read.

" I read Han Bi-ya's book, and I was very surprised that African children who are similar in age to my child eat muddy water. I immediately posted it on the World Vision bulletin board. "I'm a cellist, and I want to help African children somehow." World Vision was surprised to hear such a message for the first time, and that's how we started our drinking water support activities."

Kim said, "At first, the key was to resolve the doubts that 'my donations will be used properly.' He said, "The performers who participate in talent donation also wanted to make sure their performance was used in meaningful places. So, at each performance, the details of the use of the previous donation were disclosed. I also visited Africa in person and confirmed the lives of children who have changed through sponsorship."

to plant seeds of hope in Zambia, Africa

Director Kim has visited Africa three times since 2009 to feel the effectiveness of drinking water support activities. "It was very rewarding to see children growing up healthy with clean water and children growing up in school and growing their dreams," he said.

The Soul Chamber Orchestra's activities were not just solving drinking water problems, but also leading to children's education, health, and economic independence in the village. In fact, a donation of W460 million raised over 15 years by the Soul Chamber Orchestra was used to supply clean water to the African Zambian region, which benefited about 800,000 people.

Everyone can practice sharing if they want to.

Director Kim gave all the credit for this achievement to the members of the Soul Chamber Orchestra. About 80 members of the orchestra participate voluntarily. Various people, including friends, schoolmates, juniors, disciples, and families, are gathering to practice good sharing through music. Nevertheless, director Kim stressed that practicing such sharing is never difficult.

"If you change your mind a little bit, anyone can help others. If you raise your head, raise your gaze, and extend your hand, you can do something meaningful that gives dreams and wishes to others. I think our members all have seeds in their hearts that they want to help others. I want you to know that the participation of such members is clearly changing the lives of children on the other side of the world.”
