The Tokyo Shimbun introduced each country's reaction to the Japanese Atomic Bomb Victims Association's award of the Nobel Peace Prize and told the story of Jeong Won-sul, president of the Korean Atomic Bomb Victims Association.
Chairman Chung said, "The eradication of nuclear weapons is a common wish for the atomic bomb," adding, "I congratulate you from the bottom of my heart."
Kyodo News also covered Chairman Chung's interview, saying, "I hope it will be a peaceful world, and Korean victims have not been supported by Japan for a long time."
The Korean Association of Atomic Bomb Victims estimated that 100,000 Koreans were exposed to the atomic bomb dropped on Japan in 1945, and 50,000 of them were killed at the time.
