According to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance's national audit data book and accompanying lottery tickets submitted to the National Assembly, lottery sales in the first half of this year amounted to 4.25 trillion won, up 26% from the same period last year.
Compared to four years ago, it's up nearly 63%.
Of the sales in the first half of the year, online lotteries such as lotto accounted for 70% with KRW 2.97 trillion, followed by electronic lotteries, printed lotteries, and combined lotteries.
The government is currently considering whether it is necessary to change the size of the first lottery prize money, but the Ministry of Economy and Finance is collecting public opinions by the 25th through "People's Thinking" run by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
