A group of sardines appeared off the coast of Masan, Changwon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, and authorities began emergency work to prevent the mass death of the sardines.

Masan Happo-gu, Changwon-si, said that if sardines that consume a lot of oxygen travel in groups, mass deaths may occur due to lack of oxygen, so they are using fishing boats to disperse sardines.

In addition, he added that he is also collecting more than 200 kg of sardines that have already died to prevent odors.

In September-October 2022, 226 tons of sardines died en masse off Masan due to lack of oxygen, and 46 tons died last year.
