Former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that he had made a great deal with South Korea while in office and led the negotiations on defense cost-sharing to his advantage.

Former President Trump said in a Fox News interview that he had a great deal with Japan and then mentioned that he had a great deal with South Korea as well.

He added that he said there are 40,000 U.S. troops in South Korea and they are risking a dangerous situation.

This is interpreted as an indication that the U.S. Forces Korea stationed in South Korea took the risk of North Korea and used it as leverage in negotiations with South Korea, including defense cost sharing.

Former President Trump called on South Korea to drastically raise its defense cost share to 5-6 times that of the previous year during his tenure.
