The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the deployment of an additional high-altitude missile defense system, THAAD batteries, and troops to Israel.

This was approved by the Secretary of Defense at the direction of the President.

It's a coordination to support the defense of Israel from attacks by Iran or Iranian-linked militias.

[Joe Biden / U.S. President: (Why did you decide to deploy THAAD in Israel?) To defend Israel.]

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi has warned that such a decision is putting the lives of U.S. soldiers at risk."Iran wants peace," he said at a joint press conference with Iraqi Foreign Minister

, but "is fully prepared for the war situation."

[Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi] We are prepared for any kind of situation. We are prepared for war, but we are also prepared for peace.

Iraq has stressed that it cannot allow Israeli missiles or fighter jets to pass through Iraqi airspace.

[Fuad Hussein / Iraqi Foreign Minister] We are trying to prevent war. Iraqi airspace must be outside the scope of the collision.]

Iran fired about 200 ballistic missiles into Israel on the 1st, saying it would retaliate for the death of the head of Hezbollah and others.

Israel's war clouds are growing as it declares a retaliatory attack.
